LOUTH U3A RECEIVES A GRANT FROM AWARDS FOR ALL

We are pleased to announce that LouthU3A has received a grant from Awards For All to purchase 8 laptop computers, a colour printer and a wireless router to make an internet connection to all the items.  All the computers are equipped with Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop Elements software so they are quite versatile and capable devices.

The application for the grant was originated by the Digital Photography Group so that they could digitally process the pictures they were taking on their digital cameras.  The Committee saw the potential of the equipment to be used for other U3A activities also so were willing to support the application in the name of the Louth U3A.

The equipment is already being used by the Digital Photography Group and further uses are seen to be short courses for beginners to computing and for those members who already have a computer but want to add to their skills and get more out of it.

Big Lottery Fund site is www.biglotteryfund.org.uk

The Beginners Course and a Computer Management Course have already been run and further titles are being planned.  Both of the above courses will be re-run as demand necessitates.

Nordic Walking!
Until recently, few people had heard of Nordic Walking, but thanks to the word spreading about the health benefits, in the past year it has taken off and there are now an estimated 100,000 regular Nordic Walkers in the UK.
Here in East Lindsey Nordic Walking has also become a real hit too with a series of sessions organised across a variety of terrains.  These sessions take place each week as follows:

  • Monday  1pm Woodhall Spa Trail, meet at Sandy Lane end
  • Tuesday 9:30am Witham Way Country Park Boston
  • Tuesday 1:30pm Westgate Wood Boston
  • Wednesday 9:30 Hubbard Hills Car Park on Hallington Road, Louth
  • Thursday 1:00pm Snipedales , Winceby
  • Friday 9:30 Westgate Wood, Boston

"The sessions have really taken off and more and more people are now recognising the benefits of taking regular exercise," said Nordic Walk Leader, Pete Wollard. "Nordic Walking is not simply a case of grabbing a pair of poles and walking with them. It requires the correct technique in order to get the whole body working and it is essential you learn this from a qualified Instructor who will ensure you get the full benefit and fastest possible results. The best thing is that the poles actually propel you along so it feels easier!"
The taster sessions Pete runs are all free and the great thing about Nordic Walking is that it uses all the major muscles in the body and can burn up to 20-40% more calories than ordinary walking.
Pete is inviting people to try a taster session for free at which point you can decide if it is for you, if so you can then book onto a four week technique course.
For further information, please contact Pete on 07967 214848 or visit http://your.nordicwalking.co.uk/pete_woollard Alternatively, if you are a member of a group and are interested in trying Nordic Walking please give Pete a call and he may be able to offer other locations across the District.
Nordic Walking equipment is provided. All you need to take part are some good lightweight shoes or trainers with a flexible sole and a drink. So give it a go!

A company called My Last Song.com has contacted us to tell us about the services available through their web site.  www.mylastsong.com
Paul Hensby the Director has emailed us to say   The purpose of the newly launched website, My Last Song “is to encourage people to address the issues they and their loved ones will face in the latter years of their lives in a positive and supportive way.
It also provides an online Vault in which people can store the information that will be required by their close family and executors. They can also store their individual details, life stories, photographs, scrapbook pages, achievements and activities so that future generations have an accurate insight of their unique lives and times.”
